As July winds down, some dates to remember: Breakfast August 1st in the Ferry at the Odd Fellows Hall from 8:00 a.m. to noon, The Knights Ferry Community Club meeting August 5th at the clubhouse at 6:30 for a dinner meeting, and Knights Ferry School Board meeting August 12, at the school at 6:00 p.m.

Jewls Rosso at the 50’s Roadhouse was totally surprised last Monday night as Wednesday night regulars and others came for dinner with many excuses for being there on Monday. Then came the Birthday Cake, brought by Leslie Chitwood, to Jewls for her big 50. There was much singing of the Birthday Song and many funny cards. She had no clue there was going to be a celebration!

Lee and Mary Sue Shearer in “Gertie” and Don and Gail Diltz in their Ford Victoria joined other Oakdale Model A car club members for a drive to Modesto to tour the McHenry Mansion and the McHenry Museum and then have lunch. It was a great trip! Then on Sunday, Lee and Mary Sue took Jean (Lee’s sister) and Harvey Hickey to see “Music Man” in Modesto at the Gallo Center. Alex Lucero, who graduated from Oakdale High this year, plays the lead, Harold Hill. Mary Sue’s daughter, Cindy Davis played the snare drum and granddaughter Gwyn Davis played the clarinet at the end when a large marching band came down through the aisle playing “Seventy Six Trombones”. This production was by the YES (Youth Entertainment Stage) Company. It was a wonderful show!

Bob Hunter and Lis Whalen have returned from a week of camping at Clark’s Fork. They enjoyed eating the fresh caught trout for dinner. There was some rain and thunder and lightning but as a whole the trip was fun.

At the MAC meeting last Thursday Raul Mendez from Stanislaus County Chief Executives Office shared a copy of an East Side Tour CD that has been put out for a self-guided tour of Oakdale, Riverbank and Knights Ferry, available at the Oakdale Chamber of Commerce. The California Highway patrolman said all is quiet. Gary Haywood from Public Works reported on the patching of holes in area roads and the chip sealing of outlying roads. Mike Corcel from Animal Control gave out Knights Ferry’s statistics on animals and there are currently 61 licensed dogs, 7 calls for an Animal Control Officer, 6 stray dogs taken in and one dog bite. The number to call for Animal Control is 558-PETS. When walking dogs they should be on a leash. Supervisor Bill O’Brien was in attendance. Under new business, Nancy Heaven wants to build a house on her Squaw Gulch property; she had not sent enough information for the MAC to act on it.
