Knights Ferry Community Club’s annual July picnic will be July 1st at 6:00 p.m. in the pecan grove of the Knights Ferry Recreation Park. The club will provide the hot dogs and drinks and Lee will cook the beans. Those with last names beginning with A-M please bring salads or sides and M-Z please bring desserts or nibbles.

A wife has been returned to her husband’s side. A call was received that a worker had found a tombstone in a trash pile while working at a construction job at a school in Oakland. The worker could read German and researched it on the Internet’s cemetery web and found it was from Knights Ferry. His supervisor, Brian Merritt, hauled it to his house in Manteca and Tena and Scott Heaton (Knights Ferry Ice Cream Parlor) picked it up and brought it to the Ferry. The headstone of Gesche Von Stemmen is now beside her husband. She was buried in 1869. If only it could talk!
