The 56th Annual Knights Ferry Pumpkin Roll brought big crowds and sunny skies to Main Street. Vendors filled the Community Club and tennis courts, offering crafts, food, and fun – including face painting for the kids. The firemen’s tri-tip sandwiches were a hit, and the smell of kettle corn drifted through the air as families cheered on pumpkin rollers of all ages. It was another festive day celebrating community and tradition in Knights Ferry.

For a taste of local tradition, here’s a Pumpkin Cake recipe shared by Shirley Feichter Mack from the Garden Club’s 1984 cookbook:
Pumpkin Cake
1 yellow cake mix
One large can pumpkin pie mix
½ cup brown sugar
2 eggs
1 small can evaporated milk
1 cube butter
1 teaspoon cinnamon
Spread half of dry cake mix in a 9” x 13” pan. Beat eggs, pumpkin mix and milk and pour over cake mix. Mix other half of the cake mix in a bowl with brown sugar, cinnamon and butter. Crumble together and sprinkle on top of liquid mixture. Bake at 350° for 45 minutes. When cool, top with whipped cream.
