In a formal statement released Monday, Aug. 4, officials with the City of Oakdale announced the appointment of Jason Grogan as the permanent Chief of Police for the Oakdale Police Department. Chief Grogan has been serving in an interim capacity since March 18, 2025, and brings with him over 28 years of law enforcement experience from the Modesto Police Department, where he last served as Captain of the Patrol Division.

The announcement comes in conjunction with the recent appointment of former Police Chief Jerry Ramar as the City’s new City Manager. With a strong commitment to community-focused policing, Ramar named Grogan as his successor, citing his leadership, integrity, and deep understanding of Oakdale’s values.

“It has been an honor to serve as Oakdale’s Chief of Police,” said City Manager Jerry Ramar. “As I step into the role of City Manager, I am confident that Jason Grogan is the right person to carry the department into its next phase. He understands our community, he values transparency, and he leads with a servant’s heart.”

Chief Grogan’s leadership has already been felt across the department, as he works to continue to strengthen the agency’s culture of trust, transparency, and service.

“I’m deeply honored to serve the City of Oakdale in this new capacity,” said Chief Grogan. “Chief Ramar built a department rooted in community trust and professionalism, and I am committed to carrying that legacy forward. We’ve made great strides in transforming the department’s culture into one that is service-driven and community-focused. I look forward to building on that progress with our dedicated officers and city leadership to ensure Oakdale remains a safe and thriving community.”
