A late afternoon collision in the 700 hundred block of West Greger Street on Friday, March 17 resulted in one fatality.

Oakdale Police reported that at about 5:45 p.m., officers responded to several 9-1-1 calls reporting a motorcycle traffic collision. When officers and fire personnel arrived on scene, it was determined a male driver of the motorcycle did not survive the collision. The Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office later identified the motorcyclist as James Screeton, 58, of Oakdale.

The preliminary investigation by Oakdale Police indicates Screeton was traveling westbound on Greger Street east of Wild Stallion Drive. The motorcycle struck the roundabout causing the driver to lose control and collide into a residence.

This traffic collision is currently under investigation by Oakdale Police Department personnel as to the cause and sequence of events.

The investigation is in the early stages, police said in a press release regarding the incident. Witness statements and physical evidence will be thoroughly evaluated. Preliminary investigation indicates that speed may have been a factor in the collision.
