Elementary schools prep for Science Olympiad

Students from all four Oakdale Elementary schools will be taking part in the upcoming 26th Annual Elementary Science Olympiad, slated for Saturday, April 27. Cloverland, Fair Oaks, Magnolia and Sierra View have teams preparing for the competition. In all, about 300 elementary school children from throughout the county will take part in the Olympiad, scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Walnut School, 4219 N. Walnut Road, Turlock. The awards ceremony begins at 3:15 p.m. in the Walnut School outdoor amphitheater.

This year’s event is sponsored by the Stanislaus County Office of Education (SCOE) and the Education Foundation of Stanislaus County. Events will include Bridge Building, Can Race, Catapult, Circuit Wizardry, Crime Busters, Deep Blue Sea, Knock, Knock Who’s There, Leaf & Tree, Mystery Architecture, No Bones About It, Paddle Boat, Picture This, Rock Hound, Simple Machines, Straw Egg Drop, Treasure Hunt, and Write It/Do It.

The following elementary schools are scheduled to participate: Agnes Baptist, Cloverland, Dennis Earl, Fair Oaks, Fremont Open Plan, Great Valley Academy, Hickman Charter, Hughes, Julien, Keyes, Magnolia, Our Lady of Fatima, Sierra View, and Walnut.
