Along with one main location for the observance of National Night Out on Tuesday, Aug. 5 in Oakdale, there are seven additional neighborhood locations that will be joining in the celebration.
Observed across the country on the first Tuesday in August, National Night Out is designed as a way for residents to ‘take back the night’ against crime and drugs, get to know their local first responders and law enforcement officials and enjoy the camaraderie of sharing the evening with friends and neighbors.
Oakdale Police Department serves as the organizing agency locally and has put on an award-winning National Night Out gathering for the last several years, with cooperation of different community groups and residents.
The main location is at Burchell Park, 1401 Burchell Hill Drive. The kick off for the evening will be at 5:30 p.m., official event time for National Night Out in Oakdale is 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
There will be a variety of booths, first responder vehicles on display, food, demonstrations, giveaways and more at the Burchell Park site.
Also planned this year will be Night Out gatherings at Belmare Senior Living, Golden Empire Apartments, the neighborhood of Laurel and California; the neighborhood of East G Street and South Maag Avenue; Oak Leaf Meadows Apartments; Tesoro; and Carmel Ranch.
Last year featured a successful first-time event, along South First Avenue, near J Street, but that area is currently under construction and thru traffic is not allowed on the street. South First is still undergoing work as part of the expansive Southwest Downtown Safe Routes to School Project that has seen several area streets being worked on over the course of the last several months.
Police officials, however, are encouraging everyone to stop by the main location at Burchell Park or attend the event in their neighborhood on Tuesday, Aug. 5.
“Come celebrate with your neighbors and local first responders,” the police department noted in a statement. “Let’s make our community stronger, together.”
Mayor Cher Bairos has also signed a proclamation declaring August 5, 2025, as National Night Out in the City of Oakdale.
