From the more than 450 adults and kids that visited the Gene Bianchi Community Center this past weekend to the hundreds of volunteers that helped organize the annual community clothing drive; to say it was a success would be an understatement.

People from Oakdale as well as neighboring communities arrived before the doors opened at 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 23 to get in line so that they could be among the first to peruse the thousands of clothing items that were donated to the Community Closet drive.

There was something for every member of the family, from children to men’s and women’s attire as well as footwear for all ages and sizes. With the seasonal changes coming as we glide into fall, many attendees spent some time searching for warmer items such as sweaters and comfortable footwear.

Organized by the Oakdale Enrichment Society and now in its eighth year, the Community Closet clothing drive has provided much-needed casual and business wear as well as smiles to those that venture to Oakdale to attend. There is no charge for the clothing and organizers take time to make sure all the items are in good shape before putting them out on the tables for the crowd.

“We are so grateful to everyone here, the volunteers that make this happen and all of the people that donated to make this possible,” said Lisa Lucero Ballard of OES.
