March is National Problem Gambling Awareness Month, and the California Lottery has joined this nationwide effort to spotlight the importance of responsible play and the resources available for those impacted by gambling-related harm.

Confidential, no-cost help is available 24/7 for anyone who needs it. Californians can call 1-800-GAMBLER (1-800-426-2537), text SUPPORT to 53342, or visit 800gambler.chat for live online assistance. These services are accessible to players and their loved ones at any time.

“Our mission to raise supplemental funding for public education goes hand-in-hand with our responsibility to promote safe and enjoyable play,” said California Lottery Director Harjinder K. Shergill Chima. “We want every Californian to know that help is always available – free, confidential, and just a call or click away.”

The Lottery integrates responsible gaming messaging into every aspect of its operations, including its website, social media, retailer communications, and printed on the back of every Scratchers ticket. These continuously improving efforts maintain the California Lottery’s Level 4 Responsible Gaming certification – the highest rating – from the World Lottery Association.

The California Lottery’s sole mission is to raise additional funding for public education, helping to supplement school budgets for K-12, community colleges, and universities. Since 1985, the Lottery has contributed more than $48 billion to California public schools through the responsible sale of its games. More than 95% of Lottery revenue goes back to the community in the form of prize payments, retailer commissions and bonuses, and contributions to education.
