Fans from all over descended on Knights Ferry this past weekend to celebrate two of the finest things in life: art and music. With more than 30 musical attractions and plenty of artistic endeavors to enjoy from Friday, June 4 through Sunday, June 6, the annual Knights Ferry Art and Music Festival was a bonafide hit. For those that wanted to catch some of the local talent including Willy Tea Taylor, Chris Doud, Nathan Ignacio and Talking Ghosts, they were treated to great musical performances on every stage. The festival organizers were also proud to bring artists like Possessed by Paul James from Texas, Johnny Franco and His Real Brother Dom, Brazilian Rock and Roll Troubadours that now live in Oregon and Mike Clark and The Sugar Sounds hailing from Colorado, to Knights Ferry where they shared their harmonies and joy of creative musical artistry with the crowd.
The trio of organizers, Taylar Mason and Randy and Amanda Russell, wanted to ensure that art in its various mediums was also featured prominently at the festival so they hosted some art shows at the Knights Ferry Art Studio and Gallery featuring artists such as Phil and Tawny Vance, as well as Damien Munguia.
Phil Vance painted an amazing portrait of Willy Tea Taylor featuring lyrics from some of Taylor’s songs, while Munguia was the artist that led the creation of the sculpture garden which highlighted art made from natural and recycled materials. In addition, there were some interactive art installations throughout the multi-day festival, encouraging all ages to participate.
“We wanted to bring everyone together to honor artists and create things while they were here at the festival,” said Mason, owner of the Knights Ferry Art Studio and Gallery. Both Mason and the Russells hosted shows and they are already looking forward to next year’s event, as they continue to fine tune it as they go.
