School Involvement Program Focuses On Agriculture

The Stanislaus County Fair is partnering with local pre-school through fifth-grade classes, as well as after school programs to teach students about the importance of agriculture in the community.

The fair’s “School Involvement Program” is sponsored by the Turlock Chamber of Commerce Ag Committee and gives students an opportunity to use their imagination and put into their project all that they have learned about agriculture.

Specifically-developed curriculum kits will assist teachers with instructing students all about agriculture. The free-of-charge kits include project information, a book, activities for the classroom, and supplies for the group project. Each class participating will have their projects entered and showcased at the 2018 Fair.

To participate, teachers must call the Fair Office at (209) 668-1333 and reserve their Project Kit – but there are only 50 available, so call as soon as possible. The kits became available as of Tuesday, April 17 at the Fair’s Exhibit Office located at 900 N. Broadway, Turlock in the Front Office. Kits may be picked up or turned in Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. Please note: entry information must be completed and submitted before receiving the project kits. The deadline for submitting projects and summary forms is Friday, June 29 by 4 p.m. Projects may be turned in before the deadline.

“Each class that participates will have their creative and educational projects displayed at the 2018 Stanislaus County Fair,” said Laura Moore, Exhibits Supervisor. “Cash prizes are awarded to classes whose creative “A is for Agriculture” projects are rated brilliant and exceptional by project judges.”

The 2018 Stanislaus County Fair opens Friday, July 13 for a 10-day run. Fair guests can count on an award-winning experience that has been over 107 years in the making. Discounted Fair admission tickets, unlimited ride wristbands, and the Fair season pass will be on sale beginning Saturday, April 28.
