Members of the Oakdale High School wrestling program had an impressive week.

On Wednesday evening, Jan. 10 the boys earned the Valley Oak League championship and followed that up with a team victory at the Tim Brown Memorial Tournament on Saturday.

Short work was made of the other teams in the Valley Oak League as the Mustangs muscled their way past them during the VOL tournament. Oakdale went through Central Catholic 68-9, Manteca 82-0, Sierra 78-4, East Union 72-6 and Kimball 84-0 to claim the outright championship honors.

In the Tim Brown Memorial Tournament, hosted at the Sacramento Memorial Auditorium, the Mustangs had seven wrestlers take the podium. Eziequel Vela, Gideon Gerber, Wes Burford and Elias Corona all placed first. Carlos Garica placed second. Avery Jones finished fourth and Gavin Gleason finished seventh.

“The team has put together a successful regular season and are confident about making a great run into the postseason,” said coach Steve Stange.

This coming weekend, Oakdale is scheduled to head up the hill for the annual Hatler Memorial Tournament at Sonora High School. Wrestling action begins Saturday, Jan. 20 at 9 a.m.
