Water Polo Wins Lone Game Of The Week

It was a short, but successful week for the Oakdale High School water polo program. Both the varsity boys and girls teams hosted Ripon on Wednesday, Oct. 10. This was the final home game for these two teams before the end of the regular season.

In girls action Oakdale edged Ripon 6-5 for the win. With a 2-0 advantage after the first quarter, Oakdale continued to shut out the Indians in the second period behind goalkeeper Camryn O’Neal. She finished the game with 10 saves. Oakdale led 3-0 at halftime but Ripon would get to O’Neal and the Lady Mustangs as they scored three goals in the third period to make it 4-3. With the score tied at four in the fourth frame, Bethany Metcalfe scored the winning goal with less than a minute left. Metcalfe scored both second half goals for Oakdale and finished with three goals and Neesa DeLeon added three in the win.

For the boys it was a fast start that led to their 13-7 win over Ripon. In the net Zach Hill had five saves and came away with two steals. Stash Perry had a team high seven goals. Aron Cameron had three goals, while Chandler Neal had two and Spencer Ruthman scored one.

This week both teams took on Kimball Monday, Oct. 15 following The Leader’s press time. On Wednesday, Oct. 17 both teams will travel to Modesto to take on Central Catholic in Valley Oak League action. The girls are scheduled to play at 5 p.m. and the boys at 6 p.m.
