Volleyball Squads Earn Pair Of VOL Wins

It was a successful two-game road trip for the Oakdale High School varsity volleyball team, as they captured a pair of victories away from home.

On Tuesday, Sept. 11 the girls defeated East Union in three straight sets. Two days later they traveled to Stockton where they defeated Weston Ranch in three straight sets. Oakdale is now 4-4 overall and 3-1 in Valley Oak League competition.

In their league road win over the Lancers, Oakdale edged out a lengthy first set win, 29-27. Sets two and three were less dramatic as Oakdale won 25-18, 25-16. Their win over the Cougars was quick work. Oakdale declawed the Cougars 25-10, 25-12, 25-8.

Following the road wins, Oakdale improved to 3-1 in Valley Oak League play and are in second place and have won three straight league games. They trail Central Catholic by one game and on Tuesday, Sept. 18 the girls hosted the first place Raiders following The Leader’s press time. Oakdale returns to the court on Tuesday, Sept. 25 when they host Sierra (0-3) and will host Manteca (2-1) on Thursday, Sept. 27. Both matches are scheduled for 6 p.m.

Oakdale’s varsity stats leaders through the first four Valley Oak League games are: Emma Harper 33 kills, Grace Veredegaal 16 total blocks, Kailee Whorton 10 serving aces, 55 digs and 43 receptions and Alyssa Cogburn leads the team in assists with 73.

The junior varsity girls remain unbeaten on the season following a pair of road wins over East Union and Weston Ranch. The team defeated both the Lancers and Cougars in straight sets and turned their attention to Central Catholic on Tuesday, Sept. 18. Oakdale will take on Sierra and Manteca next week, Tuesday and Thursday, starting at 5 p.m.

For the freshman girls, no games were scheduled this past week.
