Valley Oak League contests over the past couple of weeks have seen some wins for Mustang teams, with volleyball and water polo taking down opponents. Here is a brief recap of the action.
VOLLEYBALL
Hosting Patterson on Thursday, Oct. 2, the varsity volleyball girls got the straight sets win, defeating the visitors 25-20, 25-15, 25-8. Jaedyn Riley had 14 kills and 15 assists in the win; Samatha Blanc had eight kills.
They are scheduled to play at East Union on Oct. 9 and host Sierra on Tuesday, Oct. 14.
WATER POLO
In the pool, the water polo varsity boys defeated Sierra in VOL play by an 18-4 final on Monday, Sept. 29. In tournament action, they took some losses, with games Oct. 3 and 4; falling to Castro Valley 11-2, Washington 13-5 and Alhambra, 7-6.
The varsity girls, meanwhile, lost their league match to Sierra by a 9-5 final on Sept. 29.
The teams resume Valley Oak League play at Ripon on Oct. 13.
CROSS COUNTRY
In the VOL #1 meet at Mistlin Park in Ripon, on Oct. 1, it was a first place finish for the varsity girls team. Addison Wylie was first overall in 17:56 for the three-mile course. Taylor Reams was fifth, Tenley Wylie sixth, Jordan Wylie eighth and Kylie Fast ninth.
It was also a first place finish for the varsity boys on the three-mile course, paced by the second place overall showing of Sean Muturi, running the race in 16:15. From there, Oakdale swept the next four spots, with Weston McGhee third, Quinn Baca fourth, Aden Cavanaugh fifth and Roman Moreno sixth.
The frosh soph boys took second place overall in their two-mile race, with Daniel Anderson finishing in the top 10, taking seventh in 11:48. Trevor Powell was 11th, Ezekiel Perez 14th, Alan Covarrubias 16th and Brayden Silva, 22nd.
Earlier, at the Clovis West Invitational staged at Woodward Park, Fresno on Friday, Sept. 26, the teams also did well. For the varsity girls, they captured first place in the 5K Small Schools Division race and Addison Wylie was first overall in 19:37. Tenley Wylie was fourth, Taylor Reams took sixth with Jordan Wylie 15th and Zeidy Cornejo finished 22nd.
The varsity boys were second overall in the Small Schools Division 5K race. Quinn Baca was sixth in 16:55, followed by Weston McGhee 10th, Aden Cavanaugh 18th, Sean Muturi 19th and Mitchell Benning 22nd.
FLAG FOOTBALL
The varsity Lady Mustangs fell in a pair of games to East Union, losing on the road there 24-6 on Tuesday, Sept. 30 and then getting shut out at home by the Lady Lancers, 14-0, on Thursday, Oct. 2. In the road game, East Union had an 18-0 lead at the half, and Oakdale got its lone touchdown in the fourth quarter to avoid the shutout.
TENNIS
On the home court, the varsity tennis girls swept past East Union, 9-0, on Tuesday, Sept. 30. They were on the road at Manteca later in the week, losing by a 6-3 decision.
