Oakdale High School volleyball took the court on Tuesday night, Aug. 29 to host Sonora. The night was electric and the large crowd on hand was led by the vocal Oakdale High School student section. However, at the end of the night, it was Sonora that walked off the court with a road win. The Wildcats took care of Oakdale in four sets. Oakdale took the first set but dropped three consecutive sets to the visitors.

The night began with Mustang senior Grace Miller singing the National Anthem to get those in attendance ready for the contest. Senior Jordyn Lewis scored the first point of the night to give Oakdale a 1-0 advantage. Later in the first set, Oakdale built up a 4-0 advantage and led 6-2 but Sonora clawed their way back and tied the contest up at 6-6. Down 10-6, Oakdale called timeout and regrouped. Moments later Lewis showed her athleticism and leaped high in front of the net and scored the point to bring Oakdale within five points. Karlie Spencer got in the act and tapped the ball between a pair of Sonora defenders to cut the deficit to 17-15. Jaedyn Riley tied the game on a serve at 17 and Lewis gave Oakdale the lead on the next sequence. Avery Gleason scored the winning point as Oakdale took the first set 25-19.

Set number two Oakdale lost 19-25. Oakdale held a 11-7 advantage in the set but could not hang on. Sonora went on a 12-8 run and never lost their confidence the rest of the evening. The third set saw Oakdale fall 20-25 and they lost the fourth set 19-25. Senior Paige Taylor was also injured in an on-court collision during the contest; it is not known at this time if she will be able to return to the team this season.

Oakdale returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 6 when they host Gregori. Freshmen take the court at 4 p.m.; junior varsity is scheduled for 5 p.m.; and varsity is scheduled for 6 p.m.
