Varsity Soccer Girls Wrap Up Preseason

A busy preseason saw wins, losses and a tie for the Oakdale varsity soccer girls.

The team blanked Riverbank 5-0 to start play on a successful note. Jade Manriquez scored three goals and had an assist in the win. Maquel Besson and Lindsey Lumm each had a goal. On Tuesday, Dec. 10 the girls tied Modesto High School 1-1 behind a goal by Manriquez on an assist from Ruby Fink. Oakdale split the goalkeeper responsibilities as Victoria Rojas and Lindsey Lumm took on the duties. Lumm gave up the goal in the second half.

On Friday, Dec. 13 the girls defeated Hilmar 4-3 on penalty kicks, though no other stats were reported for the contest.

Over the weekend the girls competed in a tournament where they defeated Lathrop, a former Valley Oak League team, by a final of 2-0. Besson and Lumm each scored a goal with Julie Overton dished out the lone assist of the game. Oakdale’s tournament run came to a close when they lost to Hanford 2-0.

The girls opened their Valley Oak League campaign on Monday, Dec. 16 at home against Manteca. This league opener was held following The Leader’s press time. Their next game is scheduled at home against East Union on Wednesday, Dec. 18 at 5 p.m.
