Oakdale High School’s varsity soccer girls (4-4-1, 0-1) capped off their preseason with a 2-0 victory over Franklin on Monday, Dec. 10. In the win, Daniela De La Riva scored a goal that was assisted by Kassy Rodriguez and Macquel Besson had an unassisted goal. Victoria Rojas was in the nets all night and had the shutout home win.

“We are a little behind where we would like to be with all the unforeseen setbacks, but the team is coming together and should be a fun group to watch this season,” said head coach Grace Fernandez.

The unforeseen setbacks Coach Fernandez is speaking of were canceled games and practices due to poor air quality and weather.

On Wednesday, Dec. 12 the team opened their Valley Oak League season on the road when they took on Manteca (3-3-2, 1-0). It was a 1-0 shutout win for the host Buffaloes.

“Manteca capitalized on their chances to score and we did not, that was the difference,” said Fernandez.

Monday, Dec. 17 the girls continued their Valley Oak League road trip when they played East Union (6-1-1, 1-0) following The Leader’s press time. This week Oakdale hosts Sierra (12-2-1, 0-0) in their home opener on Wednesday, Dec. 19 with a 5:45 p.m. start time.

The soccer season will take a two week break for the holidays and is scheduled to return on Jan. 4 when the girls travel to Stockton to take on Weston Ranch (1-8-0, 0-1-0).

For the junior varsity, their season continues to be a growing process. The girls dropped both games as they were blanked 1-0 by Franklin and 2-0 at Manteca.
