Varsity, JV Hoop Girls Collect Trio Of Wins

The Oakdale High School varsity girls basketball team had three games this past week and won all three of them to improve to 5-2 on the season. In their trio of games, the Lady Mustangs defeated Hilmar, Summerville and Waterford in non-conference games. On Tuesday, Dec. 4 the girls defeated Hilmar 66-25 at home. Oakdale then defeated Summerville 72-46 at home on Thursday, Dec. 6. The Lady Mustangs capped off their successful week with a 69-22 road win on Saturday against Waterford.

In their home win over Hilmar, Grace Higle scored a game high 22 points. The Lady Mustangs had two more players in double digits as Kayden Legan and Alicia Platt each had 11 points. Higle and the Lady Mustangs picked up where they left off two days later when they handled Summerville. In the win, four Lady Mustangs scored in double digits as 57 of the team’s 72 total points were scored by four players. Higle scored a game high 18, Tayler Lamb had 14, Legan scored 13 and Platt added a dozen in the home win. Saturday night Oakdale scored double digits in each quarter including a 26 point effort in the first quarter against Waterford. The Lady Mustangs did not allow the Wildcats to score more than nine points in a quarter and held them to 14 total in the first half. Oakdale took a 44-14 halftime lead. Platt scored 11 of her 21 points in the first quarter to help power Oakdale to the road win. Legan scored 17 and Higle added 12 in the winning effort.

The varsity girls look to keep up their momentum when they host Ripon Christian on Wednesday, Dec. 12 with tipoff scheduled for 7 p.m. Oakdale will finish the week against on the road against Gregori on Tuesday, Dec. 18.

For the junior varsity team, the girls won 61-28 over Hilmar behind Aidyn Hill and Alexia Martin’s 16 points. Oakdale defeated visiting Summerville 58-29 behind 11 points and 11 rebounds from Madison Jones. Harmony Edwards scored 10 points and Martin added 10 points and had seven steals. Over the weekend Oakdale defeated Waterford 58-20 where Jadyn Rau had a dozen points and four steals. Two others hit double digits as Martin had 12 points and Brooke Crowley added 11. Jones had 10 rebounds.

The freshman team had two games this past week resulting in wins. The girls defeated Summerville 39-24 behind Ruby Fink’s 12 points. Oakdale scored 15 points in the first quarter to open up the game. Saturday night was a 47-10 road win over Waterford. Roxy Anderson had two three-point field goals and totaled 14 points. Alivia Antinetti had eight points in the win.
