Varsity Boys Hoopsters Looking For First VOL Win

The Oakdale High School boys varsity team played their lone Valley Oak League contest of the week on Thursday, Jan. 10. That night the Mustangs (14-5, 0-3) traveled to Manteca to clash with the Sierra Timberwolves (15-3, 3-1). Oakdale struggled to find an offensive rhythm as they lost 67-35. The Mustangs struggled from the field as they only posted five first quarter points and 14 for the entire first half and trailed 41-14 at the break.

Freshman guard Kobe Nunes scored a team-high 10 points, while Jonah Norman scored eight points. Oakdale’s bright spot of the night had to be their efficiency at the free throw line; as the team made nine of 10 from the stripe.

Friday night, Oakdale snapped its five-game skid when they defeated Riverbank on the road 67-52 in non-league play.

Oakdale traveled to Modesto on Tuesday night, Jan. 15 to take on Central Catholic (12-7, 3-1) following The Leader’s press time. The Mustangs will host first place Weston Ranch (17-1, 3-0) on Thursday night, Jan. 17 at 7 p.m. and will travel to Tracy to take on Kimball (9-10, 1-3) Saturday night, Jan. 19 with a 7 p.m. tipoff time.

 

JUNIOR VARSITY

The junior varsity team picked up a thrilling 52-51 road win over the Timberwolves on Thursday, Jan. 10. Three players scored in double digits as Jake Kettering scored a game high 15 points and Dom Antinetti and Zach Aloisio each scored 10. Oakdale followed up with a convincing 53-20 road win over Riverbank. Eleven different players scored in the blowout win on Friday night, Jan. 11.

Tuesday, Jan. 15 Oakdale took on Central Catholic on the road following The Leader’s press time. The JV Mustangs return home on Thursday, Jan. 17 to battle Weston Ranch with a tipoff time scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Saturday night the boys head to Tracy to take on Kimball, also scheduled for 5:30 p.m.

 

FRESHMEN

A heartbreaking road loss for the team on Thursday evening, as the boys lost 34-33 to Sierra. Johnny Kraude’s free throw gave Oakdale a 33-31 lead late in the game. Sierra hit a buzzer beating three to win the game. Jackson Holt scored a team high 13 points in the loss. Friday night the boys defeated Riverbank 47-25. Ten different players scored for Oakdale. Tuesday, Jan. 15 the boys took on Central Catholic on the road. Thursday evening the boys will take on Weston Ranch at home with a 4 p.m. tipoff time and Saturday they will take on Kimball in Tracy with a 4 p.m. tipoff.
