This past week, members of the Oakdale High School soccer teams had to battle the elements as well as top Valley Oak League opponents.

For the varsity boys, they suffered a pair of 3-0 shutout losses. Their first defeat came against first place Kimball on Tuesday, Jan. 23.

“Regardless of the loss, I think this was the best we played all season. Kimball is the first-place team in Valley Oak League, so overall I feel good about our effort,” said head coach Jaime Martinez.

Things did not get any easier for Oakdale as they took on second place Sierra and once again were shut out on the pitch. The Mustangs look to bounce back as they travel to Modesto to face Central Catholic on Thursday, Feb. 1 at 6:15 p.m.

For the girls, Oakdale hosted Sierra on Wednesday, Jan. 24. Under the lights in The Corral and a steady rain falling, Oakdale tied with the visiting Timberwolves 1-1. Both goals were scored in second half play, one from each team. Oakdale’s goal came from Mia Peterson on an assist from Jocelyn Gradilla. Avery Alves had four saves in goal for the varsity Lady Mustangs. This week Oakdale will travel to Modesto to face Central Catholic on Wednesday, Jan. 31 at 6:15 p.m.
