It was a tough week for the Oakdale High School varsity girls soccer team as they fell in two Valley Oak League contests.

The Lady Mustangs (5-7-2, 2-6-0) fell to Manteca (15-1-3, 6-1-1) and East Union (7-7-2, 5-3-0). On Wednesday night the girls fell to Manteca on the road by a 5-2 decision. In the loss, Ruby Fink and Daniela Dela Riva each scored goals. Maquel Besson and Lauren Schickert each had an assist for Oakdale.

Two days later, on Friday night the girls were blanked by East Union 1-0. The lone goal of the contest came in the second half and was an unassisted tally for the Lady Lancers.

On Monday night, Jan. 27 the girls were scheduled to host first place Sierra (17-1-0, 7-0-0) in a game played following The Leader’s press time. The last time these two teams faced off Sierra won by a 2-0 final on Jan. 10. The girls will then turn their attention to take on Weston Ranch (0-13-2, 0-7-0) on Monday, Feb. 3. The Valley Oak League contest will take place at 5:45 p.m. at Weston Ranch.

Oakdale shut out the Cougars 8-0 on Jan. 13 in their meeting at Oakdale High School. The Lady Mustangs finish out their season with a pair of home games with a game against Kimball (11-7-1, 5-2-1) on Wednesday, Feb. 5 and Central Catholic (3-8-2, 1-7-0) on Feb. 12. Both games are scheduled for 5 p.m.

JUNIOR VARSITY

Also taking the playing field this past week were the junior varsity girls. Oakdale’s younger Lady Mustangs lost to Manteca 1-0 on Wednesday, Jan. 22 at Manteca. Friday night the girls battled to a 2-2 tie with East Union. Goals came from Kassandra Carlos and Alexia Verduzco. Assists came from Mikayla and Tori Caldwell.

“It was a tough game, proud of the girls for their effort,” said Oakdale head coach Joey Micheletti.
