The 2021 National Day Of The Cowboy took place this past Saturday evening at the Oakdale Saddle Club rodeo grounds. Oakdale Ranch Rodeo held its annual rodeo event that featured a number of different events including branding, short rope, reverse team roping and more.

“We had a very nice crowd as far as size and energy level,” said Oakdale Ranch Rodeo chairperson Scott Heiny. “It was nice to be back out there after not being able to do it in 2020 due to the pandemic. So, I’d say it was special for our competitors and everyone in attendance.”

Buckle sponsors for the event were: Kristen Eaton and State Farm Insurance, Brian Jacobs and Golden State Stockdogs, Mike Kotowski and Tradeway Transmissions, Anita and Kevin A. Prescott, Oakdale Cowboy Museum and Ryan Cope Saddlery. Added money sponsors included Dan Dooley, Cindy Hamill and Hamill Chiropractic.

Results follow, with names spelled as provided by Ranch Rodeo officials.

First Place Open Team: Travis Kent, Tanner Kent, Justin Ramos and Lane Wheeler. Second Place Open Team: Will Musick, Kyle Erickson, Cody McNaey and Tyler Holzum. First Place Women’s Division: Tony Borba, Molly Sparrowk, Leanne Reed and Summer Tex. Sorting winners were Doreen Radovich and Mary Richards.

“We truly can not thank everyone who helped out with the event, sponsors, the crowd, Oakdale Saddle Club members, families and supporters,” added Heiny.

This is the Oakdale Ranch Rodeo’s lone event each year but it is to celebrate the National Day Of The Cowboy, which became a national day of recognition in 2005.

Rodeo fans will be able to enjoy more action in just a few short weeks when the PRCA Rodeo returns to the rodeo grounds on Aug. 14 and 15. Tickets are still available for purchase. For more information and ticket locations log on to www.oakdalerodeo.com.
