After having 10 days off, the Oakdale High School cross country teams laced up their running shoes and competed over the weekend. On Saturday, Oct. 13 Oakdale sent their varsity and freshman/sophomore teams to Hughson High School for the Hughson Super Cross.

The Oakdale varsity girls, who competed in a four kilometer race, placed third overall as a team. Junior Kayden Legan placed third overall at 15:50. Freshman Haleigh Humble continues to impress her first year in the program as she placed fourth overall and was just one second off of Legan’s time.

Oakdale’s varsity boys team placed 10th overall in the four kilometer run. Sophomore Tanner Cusano earned a top 10 finish as he completed the race in 13:51 to capture 10th overall. Senior Dustin Chavez stayed close to Cusano and earned 11th overall and finished one second behind Cusano.

The freshman/sophomore boys team earned fifth place for the Mustangs. Sophomore Nick Carter took 17th at 15:35 and sophomore Austin Bruner earned a 20th place finish as he crossed the line at 15:43.

“This is a fun meet for us, a chance to go out and race and tune up for the league championship meet,” said head coach Guy Fowler.

Oakdale’s next run is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 24 at Bloomingcamp Ranch in Oakdale for the Valley Oak League Cross Country Championships. The first race is scheduled for 2 p.m.
