It was a busy week for the Oakdale High School fall sports programs. The water polo squads and tennis team earned victories in their respective sports. Volleyball took a Valley Oak league loss to Central Catholic.
WATER POLO
The Oakdale High School water polo teams hosted Kimball in a Valley Oak League contest on Thursday, Sept. 28. Both the boys and girls programs won their league match over the Jaguars.
In boys action it was an 18-2 victory for the Mustangs. Oakdale scored six goals in the first period and never looked back. Goals were scored by Tyler Mercer (3), Logan Castano (2), Wiley Ballantyne (5), Cullen Liekhus (4), and Carson Kirschner (2), with Colton Thoni and Jeremiah Jansen each scoring one goal.
Oakdale’s varsity girls also earned a win, 13-5. Scoring for Oakdale were Claire Tolboe (1), Izzy Salzer (1), Lacey Perriera (1), Holly Hixon (3), Presley Barnes (5) and Allyson Criswell (2).
This week Oakdale will travel to Manteca to face Sierra. The contest will be held on Thursday, Oct. 5 at 4 p.m. for the girls and the boys dive in the pool at 5 p.m.
TENNIS
Two league contests resulted in a pair of league wins for Oakdale. The Mustangs defeated Manteca 6-3 and then followed up with a 7-2 victory over Sierra. In their home win over Manteca, Oakdale’s number one Payton Avila lost her match 2-6, 1-6. Number two Riley Coviello-Miller lost 0-6, 0-6. Things turned around for Oakdale as Kaylee Schauer, Riley Avila and Maddie McTague all earned wins on the court. Closing out the day in singles was Audrey Hely who lost 4-6, 4-6. Doubles remains unbeaten as they swept Manteca 3-0. Two days later the girls headed to Manteca to face Sierra. Payton Avila, Riley Avila, Maddie McTague and Audrey Hely all won their singles matches. The doubles continued their dominance by sweeping all three contests. Oakdale is now 5-0 in Valley Oak League play and are currently in first place. On Tuesday, Oct. 3 the girls traveled to Manteca to take on East Union to face the Lancers following The Leader press time. They return home to host Kimball on Thursday afternoon, Oct. 5 at 3:30 p.m.
VOLLEYBALL
Oakdale suffered a difficult loss to Central Catholic in three sets. Coach Kaitlin Burke said: “The girls fought hard and played to a higher level tonight. They showed up and fought hard against Central Catholic.”
Oakdale lost the contest in four sets to the Raiders. Tuesday night the girls hosted Sierra following The Leader press time. Oakdale will retake the court on Thursday night, Oct. 5 against Manteca.
