Stampede Boys Are Bowl Bound
11-16 OAK Stampede

The varsity Oakdale Stampede rolled past the visiting Buhach Thunder on Nov. 12 in 40-14 fashion to win an AFC title and clinch a berth in the CenCal Youth Football League Super Bowl.

The collection of 31 athletes will take on the Modesto Broncos (NFC champions) at 7 p.m. at Atwater High for the final say in the CenCal standings.

“Our kids were really focused on the task at hand and had a very good week of practice in preparation,” Stampede coach Jason Rowe said. “We had played the Thunder once before and we knew what was coming.”

What was coming turned out to be big scores from Oakdale’s biggest offensive weapons and some fresh looks at runners who landed an opportunity to shine.

Austin Manning ran for a score and threw a touchdown to Bobby DePuy, while quarterback Isaac Moreno ran a steady offense behind scores from Adam Olson and Broderick Medrano.

Oakdale led 26-0 at the half and outlasted desperate Buhach efforts in the final two quarters.

“Defensively it was a total team effort,” Rowe said. “Everyone did their job and that was the main reason for our success.

“We are very fortunate to be where we are at and we would not have gotten here without all the hard work these kids put in.”
