Wrestlers Pin Down Raiders

In Valley Oak League action on Wednesday, Jan. 17 the Oakdale Mustangs wrestlers defeated Central Catholic 44-6. The defending 11-time Valley Oak League champions made short work of the Raiders on the road and quickly turned their focus to Saturday’s Hatler Memorial in Sonora.

Both junior varsity and varsity Mustangs found success on the mats this weekend. In junior varsity action, Brenden Thompson (122) claimed first place. Oakdale’s varsity saw Dakota McNeil (160) take first place up the hill and fellow senior Jorge Barajas (220) also took first place. Beau Osmundson (170) placed fourth and Steven Graff (128) placed fifth.

This weekend Oakdale heads to Gilroy to compete in the Mid Cals Friday and Saturday. Others from the team will stay local and compete in the Pitman Rumble Tournament at Pitman High School in Turlock. Wrestling takes place at 9 a.m. Section Duals will take place Saturday, Feb. 3 at Lincoln High School in Stockton. The tournament is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
