The 2017 Oakdale High School volleyball team’s season came to an abrupt end on Halloween night.

The girls were the ninth seed in the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section D III playoffs and fell to the eighth seed Beyer Patriots in three sets.

In a competitive first set Oakdale lost 23-25 but never really got back into the series. The second set was not kind to the Lady Mustangs as the girls were blown out 15-25 to fall behind 2-0. Beyer ended the night and Oakdale’s season with a third set 25-17 victory.

Coach Heather Gonzales said the once promising season hit a major speed bump when the girls lost their final two games of the regular season. Heading into Senior Night the girls had won 10 straight games setting up the chance to win the Valley Oak League title. The girls lost to Central Catholic in four sets and then lost a heartbreaker to Lathrop on the road in the season finale in five sets. Oakdale went on to place second in the Valley Oak League with an 11-3 record. Prior to this year, the team won the league championship three straight years. Ending the Lady Mustangs reign as champs and winning this year’s Valley Oak League title was Manteca (13-1).

Thursday night, Nov. 16 the team will be hosting their end of the year banquet and awards ceremony at Oakdale Golf and Country Club at 6 p.m.
