Victories Notched In Pool By Water Polo Girls, Boys

Tuesday, Oct. 12 both the boys and girls varsity water polo teams hosted Calaveras at the Oakdale Aquatic Center. The girls began the double header with a dominant 19-3 win. In the win senior Jenny Schafle scored four goals in her final game as a Lady Mustang, as she and her family are moving out of town. Her four goals were tied for the team best along with senior Emma Bevan. Scoring two goals each were Clare McKeon and Bethany Metcalfe. Emily Bennett, Whitney Lee, Kassidy Houck, Kiersten Middleton, Kinsey Ollis, Makenzie Phillips and Kayla Peterson all got in the act and scored a goal each in the win. Oakdale’s Camryn O’Neal had two saves in the win as keeper for the Lady Mustangs. The varsity girls also earned a road win over Central Catholic 16-3 on Wednesday, Oct. 13. The girls hit the road on Tuesday, Oct. 18 to take on Bret Harte, following The Leader’s press time. Oakdale is now 17-3 overall on the year.

Oakdale’s boys earned a 16-1 win over Calaveras. In the win Logan Cary had eight saves for the Mustangs. Sophomore Aron Cameron helped lead the team with three goals in the win. Cameron is a transfer student from Downey High School and has served his waiting period, now able to compete.

“The team has treated me well, and even though I am the new guy, they welcomed me with open arms in their program,” Cameron said.

David Albertoni, Caden Nord and Jack Mendes all scored two goals each in the win. Rounding out the scoring were Brenden Ruddy, Mason Barnes, Brendan MacAnally, Corey Leach, Cole Liekhus, Nathan Womack and Luke Roche, who all scored one goal each in the win. Oakdale went to Modesto’s S.O.S. Club and defeated Central Catholic 18-4 on Wednesday, Oct. 13. Oakdale’s next game will be Tuesday, Oct. 25 at Sonora.
