Varsity Soccer Girls Earn First VOL Win Of Season

After a slow start to the Valley Oak League campaign, the Oakdale varsity girls soccer team won its first league match of the season. Entering Thursday’s road game against Weston Ranch 0-4 in league play, Oakdale shut out the Cougars by a 4-0 final to earn the victory. Oakdale scored two goals in the first half and did not slow down in the second. Sophomores Brianna Montoya and Gabriela Mayo each scored two goals and both added assists for the Lady Mustangs. Franchesca Ryan and Isabella Cobarruvias each added an assist to help power the Lady Mustangs to the win. Two days earlier the girls fell to Lathrop 5-1 at OHS, playing at The Corral in the rain.

The Lady Mustangs (3-9, 1-4) hoped to build off the Jan. 12 victory as they prepared for a four game homestand. Oakdale hosted Kimball on Tuesday night, Jan. 17 following The Leader’s press time. On Thursday night, Jan. 19 the girls are scheduled to host Central Catholic with the game set for 5:30 p.m.

Looking ahead, on Tuesday night, Jan. 23 the girls are slated to host first place Manteca with game time scheduled for 5:30 p.m. The varsity Lady Mustangs wrap up the homestand on Thursday night, Jan. 26 against East Union.

 

JUNIOR VARSITY

The JV girls improved to 3-2 on the season in league play following a pair of Valley Oak League victories. Oakdale shut out Lathrop 1-0 on Tuesday night in a home game played at The Corral. Makena Winton scored the lone goal of the game. On Thursday night the team dominated on the road against Weston Ranch with a 4-1 victory. Two goals by Arianna Lopes helped propel the girls to victory. Alyssa Stott and Payton Bohanon added solo goals in the win for the JV Lady Mustangs.
