The varsity softball girls improved to 4-0 in league play after a huge 24-0 blowout over the Lathrop Spartans. Oakdale’s (10-0, 4-0) convincing road win over Lathrop (1-5, 0-3) began with Oakdale scoring 11 runs in the bottom of the first inning and never looking back.

Oakdale’s pitching dominated as sophomore Grace Green started the game and in three innings of work struck out six and did not surrender a hit or a walk. In two innings of relief work, senior Scarlett Brock also gave Lathrop fits with a strong performance of her own. Brock struck out three and did not give up a walk.

The Lady Mustangs’ big bat attack came in the first inning where the team scored 11 runs. Eight players had multiple hits as Kindra and Maddi Hackbarth, Cierra Duke, Lexi Webb, Emily Greenwood, Shay Trent and Brittany Bye all hit the ball for Oakdale. Maddi Hackbarth and Webb got the long ball involved as both hit it over the fence for home runs. Hackbarth went 2-for-3 with a pair of home runs and adding three RBIs for the team.

“The key all year is that Kindra gets on base and sets it up for our strong line up to follow. Scarlett and Grace combined on a no hitter with eight strikeouts,” head coach Larry Loger said.

Oakdale also found success outside of the VOL when the girls headed to Tracy to compete in the Nor Cal Classic Tournament. The girls went 2-0 in the tournament, blanking Oak Ridge 11-0 and getting past Gregori 8-5. In the team’s shutout over Oak Ridge, Green gave up only two hits while striking out three. Like they did against Lathrop, Oakdale’s bats made big noise as Maddi Hackbarth connected on another home run.

“We got off to a strong start in the tournament scoring six runs in the first inning. Maddi Hackbarth hit a home run in her second straight game. Kindra Hackbarth and Cierra Duke had two hits apiece,” Loger said.

In the finale Oakdale used the long ball to put away Gregori. Maddi Hackbarth connected on her fourth home run in three games. Freshman Webb pitched six innings, striking out eight batters, giving up seven hits and three earned runs. Senior Haley Fuller went 2-for-4 with a home run and Trent went 2-for-3 with two runs to help power the Lady Mustangs.

“Gregori is a very good team, we had to battle them to the end,” said Loger.
