Varsity Basketball Girls Drop Two Contests

The Oakdale varsity girls basketball team played three tough non-conference games this past week. On Monday, Dec. 11 the girls fell to Ripon on the road 48-44. The following day, they lost to Gregori 57-38. The team bounced back for a 52-50 road win over Ripon Christian on Saturday, Dec. 16.

In the home loss to Gregori, Grace Higle scored 12 points and had seven rebounds, five assists and three steals. Carley Maaske scored nine points and three rebounds for the Lady Mustangs. In the road win at Ripon Christian, Carolyn Hamilton scored 15 points for Oakdale and pulled down seven rebounds. Higle scored 11 points and also had seven rebounds. The Lady Mustangs had three scorers in double digits as Whitney Neilson scored 10 points for Oakdale in the win. The Lady Mustangs had a 21-10 lead at the half and took a 39-32 lead into the fourth quarter.

On Tuesday, Dec. 19 the girls hosted Hilmar in a non-conference game that was held following The Leader’s press time. Friday night the girls travel to Ceres to take on Central Valley with tipoff scheduled for 6 p.m.

They wrap up the preseason with a home game against Livingston on Saturday, Dec. 30 with a tipoff time scheduled for 2 p.m.

Tuesday night, Jan. 2 the girls open the regular season against Kimball.

 

JUNIOR VARSITY

Oakdale’s junior varsity girls earned a pair of wins this week when they knocked off Gregori 43-21 and Ripon Christian 60-31. In the victory over Gregori, Afton Daley scored nine points and pulled down six rebounds. Kayden Legan and Kendra Branch each had eight points and seven rebounds. Tayler Lamb scored eight points in the win. Pouring in a season high against Ripon Christian was Legan, who scored 20 points on the road. She had her stroke going when she connected on four three-point baskets. She also finished with seven steals. Branch scored 16 points in the win.

 

FRESHMEN

The girls went 2-0 this past week with wins over Gregori and Waterford. It took an overtime period but the girls defeated Gregori 25-22 on Tuesday, Dec. 12. Calesta Webb scored a game high 12 points for Oakdale. On Saturday the girls traveled to Waterford where Webb scored a game high 16 points and Macie Gregory had 11.
