The Oakdale varsity Lady Mustangs basketball team has hit a bit of a rough patch. Since starting the preseason off 4-0, the team has dropped three of their last five. Oakdale played in a trio of games this past week, where the team went 1-2.

Oakdale went to Sonora to play their former Valley Oak League rivals. Despite a 17 point effort by senior Collen Ibasco, the Lady Mustangs fell 69-43 on Friday, Dec. 18. Ibasco went 3-for-3 from three point range, and also made 50 percent of her free throws. She also finished with a team high three rebounds and added one assist. Sophomore Sarah Bohrer added nine points for Oakdale.

The next day Oakdale bounced back and defeated Modesto 38-29 in a non-league game against the Panthers. Bohrer led the Lady Mustangs with 12 points and added four rebounds. Senior Emery Sipe nearly recorded a double-double with eight points and 10 rebounds.

Oakdale’s final game of the week came on Monday, Dec. 21 when Oakdale traveled to Modesto to take on Central Valley in a non-conference showdown. A slow start by the Lady Mustangs doomed Oakdale as they fell 62-52. Trailing 32-15 at the break, Oakdale’s second half surge fell short despite outscoring the Hawks 37-30 in the second half. Senior Madison Brewer scored a team high 13 points and Micaela Maaske added 11. Sipe also added nine points and 11 rebounds for Oakdale.

The Lady Mustangs will finish up the preseason as they travel to Beyer High School today (Dec. 30) and host Atwater on Saturday, Jan. 2. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. for the home game.
