Three Mustang cross country runners have qualified for the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Finals at Folsom High School on Friday, Nov. 10. Senior James Forkner, sophomore Kayden Legan and freshman Tanner Cusano all advanced to the finals following their impressive runs on Saturday, Nov. 4 at the CIF Sub-Sections in Frogtown.

Forkner finished his three mile run in 17:06 for the varsity boys. As a team the varsity boys finished in 12th place overall out of 33 teams. Cusano finished the race at 17:37 to qualify for the Sections. Teammate Alexis Aguilar, also a freshman, finished in 18:04 for the varsity boys.

Legan finished in just under 20 minutes at 19:58 for the varsity girls. Her efforts landed her the opportunity to compete at Friday’s Section Finals. The team finished just outside the top ten as the girls came in 11th place out of 33. Paris Thompson, a junior, finished her three mile run at 21:19 and sophomore Jazmin Martinez finished the race at 22:58.

“Both teams just missed qualifying as a team to the Section Final,” Coach Guy Fowler said. “They all ran well and gave it everything they had. Both teams are very young and they gained a lot of experience.”

The coach said he and his trio of Section athletes are looking forward to Friday and hope to advance to the state meet.
