Tennis Team Splits Contests

Two matches, one win for the Oakdale girls tennis team this past week. The girls were on the road for a pair of Valley Oak League matches when they took on Kimball and East Union. Oakdale fell to Kimball 5-4 but answered back two days later when they defeated East Union 6-3.

On Tuesday, Oct. 3 the girls headed to Tracy to face the Jaguars of Kimball. Kimball knocked off Oakdale by taking all three doubles events.

Oakdale’s Tayla Barry defeated Samantha Ngueyn in singles play 6-0, 7-6 (13-11). After taking the first set without any issues, Barry found herself down 2-5 in the tiebreaker but rallied for the win in singles action. Tavin Barry and Kendra Branch were also victorious for Oakdale in straight sets winning 6-1, 6-2 (Barry) and 6-1, 6-1 for Branch. Breanna Morgan won her contest with a 6-2, 7-6, 6-4 outing.

Thursday afternoon the girls went to Manteca to face off with the Lancers of East Union and returned home victorious. All six singles won their contests in straight sets. Lijian Bacud (6-2, 6-1); Tayla Barry (6-2, 6-1); Makenzie Brown (6-0, 7-5); Tavin Barry (6-0, 7-5); Breanna Morgan (6-3, 6-2) and Kendra Branch (6-0, 6-2).

Oakdale hosted Lathrop on Tuesday, Oct. 10 following The Leader’s press time. The girls head back on the road Thursday afternoon to take on Central Catholic at 3:30 p.m., then the girls take on Sierra on Tuesday, Oct. 17 in their final road game. Oakdale wraps up the regular season on Thursday, Oct. 19 when they host Manteca.
