Oakdale High’s soccer program rebounded from a rough start to the week while Mustang tennis and volleyball teams continued their fall success in recent action.

Soccer
Back-to-back losses to Livingston (2-1) and Beyer (3-0) represented a rough start to three consecutive home games, but Oakdale bounced back to tie Johansen on Thursday.
Harry Harris took a Scotty McNeil (goalkeeper) clearance and crossed it to Javier Aguiniga for the first score of the game. Johansen fired back after a busted play by the Oakdale defense to tie the game at the half. Both teams later scored in the final period of play, Oakdale’s hitting home when an Aguiniga pass found Tony Ott for a score, a nice diving header into the back of the net. McNeil (four saves) played tough in goal for the Mustangs.
Tennis
Another heroic effort from Oakdale’s doubles tandems led the Mustangs to a Valley Oak League victory during a 5-4 thriller over Sonora on Sept. 8.
After Lindsay Dunn (6-4, 6-7, 6-3) and Laurie Baxter (6-3, 2-6, 6-0) claimed the lone singles victories, Oakdale saw all three doubles teams erupt with victories to clinch the match.
Katie Odom and Taylor Davis nabbed a win after 6-1, 6-3 scores while Carly Rogers and Francesca Orvis claimed 6-0 wins. Alyssa Perigen and Christine Winders won in 6-3, 6-2 scores as well.
Volleyball
Oakdale’s varsity team nabbed a third consecutive away shutout with a 3-0 win over Hughson on Sept. 8. Eight kills from Domi Powell led the team to 25-10, 25-17, 25-10 wins over the Huskies.
Kaitlin Van Ryn nabbed four kills, six digs and 14 points while Justina Keith totaled three kills, 11 points and seven digs. Kellie Gratigny chipped in 11 points and 12 assists while Brittany Salas added nine digs and 10 points.
Oakdale’s junior varsity team claimed a 2-0 win over Hughson after 25-10, 25-9 scores. Brittany Carpenter had a block, three digs and five aces while Hannah Butler dished out eight assists. Kyla Lewis (three kills) and Taylor Kelley (block) also contributed. The squad also hosted an all day JV Tournament on Saturday.
