A fifth place finish at the 2016 CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Masters is how the Oakdale girls golf team’s season came to an end. Although the team did not qualify to advance to the CIF NorCal Championship, they nonetheless had a memorable season.

On Halloween, the girls competed against 12 teams at The Reserve at Spanos Park in Stockton in the Masters. Oakdale shot a team total of 453, 71 strokes off first place Granite Bay to finish the prestigious tournament in fifth place.

Representing Oakdale were six girls, all freshmen and sophomores: Madison Blanc, Taylor Stewart, Makayla Christiansen, Andrea York, Allie Denning and Chloe Liekhus. Blanc shot an 82 on the day to lead the team. Not too far behind Blanc was Valley Oak League 2016 Most Valuable Player, Stewart, who shot an 87 on the day. Two strokes behind Stewart was Christiansen at 89. York and Denning shot 97 and 98 respectively for the Lady Mustangs and wrapping up the day was Liekhus at 115.

The season may be over, but the accomplishments will live on. The team went undefeated in Valley Oak League action and won the VOL banner for the first time in over a decade.
