OHS Spring Sports Clubs Continue To Impress

As the month of March draws closer to a close, the OHS springs sports teams have continued to have impressive outings. Here is a quick glance at some of the teams that were in action this past week.

 

SWIMMING

In a home meet against East Union on Tuesday, March 24 the OHS swam its way to victory as the Varsity girls won 111-63. Notable first place finishers included Emily Bennett in the 100 meter backstroke, Clare McKeon in the 100 meter butterfly and Makenzie Phillips in the 100 meter freestyle. Varsity boys also took care of business with their 136-32 victory. Nate Van Cleave helped power the boys to victory with his impressive day as he was involved in several events, including taking second in the 100 meter backstroke. JV boys and girls are new to the event and claimed victory with a girls 96-31 finish and the boys came out on top with a 72-0 win.

 

TRACK

It was a clean sweep for all four levels of Oakdale athletes who competed in the home meet against Weston Ranch on Thursday, March 19 at The Corral. Leading the way for the boys were C.J. Domingo who placed first in the long and high jump competitions. The boys won 90-40. Varsity girls were led by Candy Juaregui with her first place finish in the 100 and 200 meter races. Melody Johnson leapt her way to victory in the 100 meter and 300 meter hurdles. Freshman Kayla Budine took first in the long jump and triple jump, as well as being a part of the 4x100 relay along with teammates Sara Stevens, Kyla Novotny and Cassie English who also took first. Stevens took first in the 400 meter race as well. For the JV boys, Jorge Barajas took first in both the shot put and discus competition, while Bailee Garcia took first in the JV girls 800, 1600 and 3200 meter races.

 

BOYS GOLF

The boys continue to swing their way to victory as they improved to 6-0 in league play after a pair of wins this past week. The team defeated Lathrop at French Camp Golf Course on Wednesday, March 18 by a final of 211-229. David Myrtakis led the way for the Mustangs with his impressive 41 stroke day. One stroke behind Myrtakis were a trio of Mustangs: Joshua Barrera, Logan Schultz and Zakary Tamburrino with 42. Nathan Lute and Dalton Stewart finished with an identical score of 44. Oakdale returned home to take on East Union the following day and came out with a 213-231 victory. Myrtakis led the way again for the Mustangs finishing with 40 score.

 

BOYS TENNIS

The boys split in league play after falling to Manteca on Monday, March 16 by an 8-1 final on the road. Shane Baxter and Michael Baskind defeated Yok-Eyh Ma and Si Hao Tang 6-2, 6-1 for the Mustangs’ only win of the day. After a stretch of four days off, the boys bounced back and claimed a road victory over Weston Ranch 7-2. Hawkey Magnussen, Spencer Keyser, Octavio Padilla and Dane Hauskens were all victorious in their singles matches, while the doubles all came away with victories as well. Baxter and Baskind, Dustin Hoy and Devin Odom, and the team of Daniel Davis and Jacob Pierson all took their opponents in straight sets. The Mustangs improved to 5-2 in VOL action.
