The wrestling season is underway and for Oakdale the expectations are running high. Oakdale has always been a powerhouse program and has been the class of the Valley Oak League for over a decade. This past Saturday, Oakdale competed at the Valley Junior Varsity Tournament. When it was all over with, Oakdale had four champions, four second place finishers and seven third place finishers on the day.

Oakdale’s Jorge Deras (113), Ethan Holcomb (126), Elijah Bailey (138) and Mario Guzman (220) all went undefeated to be crowned tournament champions. Placing second were Walter Lemons (113), Justin Carlos (132), Nathan Powers (138) and Dakota McNeil (160).

Placing third on the day were; Ozz Cazeras (106); Juan Galvan (120); Mauro Sandoval (132); Josh Bates (145; Adrian Ortega (170); Esteban Villasenor (182); Trey Smith (195); and Ben Molina (220).

The next wrestling tournament will be held on Thursday, Dec. 1 for the Oakdale Junior Varsity Duals. First match is scheduled at 4 p.m. The varsity Mustangs will also be competing at the annual Rumble for the Rig at Bakersfield High School on Saturday, Dec. 3.
