Oakdale Varsity Girls Swim Away With Win

The Oakdale Aquatic Center welcomed Sierra to town on Tuesday, April 5 in a Valley Oak League showdown. Oakdale’s varsity girls dominated the visitors in a lopsided 128-42 dismissal.

Makenzie Phillips took first place for the Lady Mustangs in the women’s 200 yard individual medley with a 2:57.51 finish. Teammate Clare McKeon powered her way to a first place finish in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 27.97 seconds. Emma Magnussen made a splash in the women’s 100 yard butterfly with a finals time of 1:05.17. Senior Emily Bennett pulled away from the competition with a 1:04.30 finals time in the women’s 100 yard freestyle. Rounding out the notable varsity girl’s efforts was Cece Hurst as she battled her way to a first place finish in the women’s 500 yard freestyle event.

Oakdale’s varsity boys fell short, 94-76, to the Sierra Timberwolves. Senior Nate Van Cleave took first place in the men’s 100 yard freestyle event. Fellow senior Rhett Harrison finished first in the grueling men’s 500 yard freestyle with an impressive finals time of 5:30.59. Caden Nord placed second for the Mustangs in the men’s 100 backstroke.

Oakdale returns to the pool this Thursday, April 14 when they host Kimball at 3:30 p.m.
