Two games, two different results. The top seeded Oakdale Lady Mustangs softball team played a pair of playoff elimination games at Arnaiz Softball Complex in Stockton on Tuesday, May 22.

In the first game Oakdale defeated Casa Roble 7-5. Oakdale’s powerful offense was charged by the top of their lineup. Leadoff hitter Adrianna Aguilar went 2-for-3 with a double. Third baseman Grace Green powered the Lady Mustangs going 3-for-4 including a solo home run. Shortstop Brittany Bye had a multi-hit game and brought in three runs. In the circle Lexi Webb pitched a complete game and had seven strikeouts.

“We beat a very good team in an elimination game,” said head coach Larry Loger.

Following the win, Oakdale took on Vanden in the semi-finals. Earlier in the tournament Vanden had defeated Oakdale 5-4. With revenge on their minds, Oakdale jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Emily Smith hit a fielder’s choice that scored Bye in the second inning. However, Vanden went on to outscore Oakdale 12-1 over the course of the following five innings. Facing a 12-2 deficit in the bottom of the seventh Oakdale showed heart and scored seven runs before the final out, resulting in a 12-9 defeat and an exit from the playoffs.

“It’s always tough when you lose in the playoffs,” admitted Loger, but added that the team overall “had a great year.”
