Oakdale Soccer Boys Drop Two; Girls Win

Coming off their big week where the team took first place in the Pitman Tournament, the Oakdale varsity boys soccer team dropped two of three games this past week. Oakdale defeated visiting Franklin on Tuesday night 3-2 but stumbled in their other two games. The Mustangs lost 1-0 to Central Valley and 2-1 to Livingston.

In their home win, Oakdale scored three first half goals to help set the tone early. Goals by Winslow Barrales, Westen Wright and Manuel Aguilar proved to be enough for Oakdale. Aguilar and Mendoza each had an assist in the game for Oakdale. Sophomore goalkeeper Daniel Dubiel had five saves in the win. After then being shut out by Central Valley, Oakdale fell on the road 2-1 to Livingston. Oakdale fell behind 2-0 in the first half and could not come back. Their lone goal came off the foot of Austin Neave with an assist by Alejandro Gonzalez in the second half.

On Monday night, Dec. 12 the boys began the regular season when they hosted Manteca following The Leader’s press time. Oakdale will take on East Union, today, Wednesday Dec. 14 on the road with the game scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Oakdale returns home on Thursday, Jan. 5 when they take on Sierra.

 

JV BOYS

In the team’s lone action of the week, Oakdale fell to Franklin 3-1 on Tuesday night, Dec. 6. Oakdale will now turn their attention to the Valley Oak League. Oakdale opened the season on Monday night against Manteca following press time.

 

VARSITY GIRLS

After opening the season 0-2-0 the girls earned wins over Venture Academy and Franklin this week. On Monday, Dec. 5 the Lady Mustangs won 3-1 over Venture Academy and then crafted a convincing 5-1 road win over Franklin on Tuesday night, Dec. 6. Viviana Albor scored two goals in the win over Venture Academy. Brianna Montoya added a goal of her own and an assist in the win. Oakdale followed it up with the big road win led by Montoya’s three goals. Alyssa Rowe and Kylee Black each had a goal in the win. Assists were dished out by Brooke Basore, Franchesca Ryan, Emily Silva-Rodriguez, Viviana Albor and Isabella Cobarruvias. The Lady Mustangs opened the Valley Oak League season on the road on Tuesday, Dec. 13 against Manteca, following The Leader’s press time and will be on the road against East Union on Thursday, Dec. 15. Oakdale returns home on Wednesday, Jan. 4 against Sierra. Game time is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.

 

JV GIRLS

Oakdale’s junior varsity will travel to East Union on Thursday, Dec. 15 and make their home debut on Wednesday, Jan. 4 against Sierra. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
