Oakdale Gators Jump In To Season At Invitational

The thermometer has reached triple digits in Oakdale and that means it is time to hit the pool. For the local youth swim team known as the Oakdale Gators, they did just that this past weekend. The swimmers went on the road to Turlock for their most recent action.

On Saturday, the team of 60-plus kids hit the pool in the Turlock Invitational at Pitman High School. At the meet a total of 93 personal best times were turned in by Gator swimmers in the 149 total swimming events. Names are spelled as provided by the swim team coaches.

Notching first place finishes for the Gators were: 10-year-old Sage Schmidt, collecting top honors in the Male 9-10 100 Individual Medley, 50 Backstroke and 100 Freestyle. Other notable swimmers were 12-year-old Mathew Van Dyke who claimed first in the 50 Backstroke and the Gators also saw a first place finish from eight-year-old Cooper Fox in the 25 Backstroke.

Placing second or third place in multiple events were: Alison Copland, Angelica Elinzondo, Evan Elinzondo, Andie French, Ronan French, Taylor Hauser, Alexia Jablan, Tyler Mercer, Emily Meyer, Emma Nelson, Micaiah Richison, Peyton Splettsoesser, Trenton Stanton and Colton Thoni.

The Gators first home meet is set for Saturday, July 23 at Oakdale High School’s Aquatic Center. The meet is set to begin at 9 a.m. For more information on the team, log on to their website at www.oakdaleswimteam.com.

The Gators will be back on the road on Saturday, July 9 to compete at Tokay High School.
