All good things must come to an end … or so the phrase goes. After 13 consecutive years as Valley Oak League champions, the streak came to an end on Wednesday, May 2 for the Oakdale High School varsity girls track and field team.

Oakdale hosted Manteca in the season finale where both the boys and girls teams were victorious for the Mustangs. The Oakdale girls won 110-19, but finished the year 6-1 behind Sierra in the standings.

In the meet victory, Cassie England scored wins in 100 meter hurdles, the high jump and the long jump. In pole vault Chloe Liekhus took first place. Freshman Emma Harper took first in discus and Hailey Morton finished first in shot put.

Finishing the season 6-1 Oakdale’s varsity boys were named Valley Oak League champions for 2018. Helping lift the team to the title were several key contributors. James Forkner placed first in 3200 meter and the 1600 meter races. Cameron Burke took first in a pair of races when he finished on top in both the 400 and 800 meters. Josh Jacobson finished first in both the 100 meter and 200 meter races and also in the long jump. Devin Murphy placed first in pole vault, while Jorge Barajas claimed first in the shot put and discus.

Junior varsity boys and girls each went 7-0 this year and are Valley Oak League champions as well, giving Oakdale three of the four top spots.

Oakdale now turns its attention to the postseason. Wednesday, May 16 will be Divisional trials and on Thursday, May 17 Divisional finals take place at Bella Vista. Masters is scheduled for Thursday and Friday, May 24 and 25 at Elk Grove.
