It was an action packed week for the Oakdale varsity boys soccer team. Oakdale opened the preseason with a 2-0 home loss against Central Valley on Wednesday, Nov. 29. Friday night the boys went to Turlock to play in the Pitman Tournament. Oakdale took on Waterford and defeated the Wildcats 1-0. Scoring the lone goal of the game was Juan Mata in the first half, thanks to an assist by CJ Glow. Earning the win was goalkeeper Philip Knieriere who made four saves in the game. In the team’s second game that day, the Mustangs and Downey battled to a scoreless tie.
Day two of the tournament on Saturday, Oakdale began fresh with a 3-0 victory over Orestimba. Eric Anaya scored two of the team’s three goals while team captain Izzy Valero added one. Mata, Alex Gonzalez and Thomas Knieriere each added assists in the win. Philip Knieriere had three saves in goal. In their final game of the weekend, Oakdale fell to Turlock 2-1. Valero scored Oakdale’s lone goal unassisted in the first half. Knieriere made four saves in the loss.
On Tuesday, Dec. 5 the team went back to Turlock to face Pitman in a non-league game. Oakdale returns home to wrap up the preseason when they host Galt on Monday, Dec. 11 and Livingston on Wednesday, Dec. 13. Both games are scheduled for 5:15 p.m.
JUNIOR VARSITY BOYS
Oakdale tied in their lone contest of the week. The JV Mustangs soccer squad hosted Central Valley on Wednesday, Nov. 29 and tied 2-2. Oakdale will take on Galt and Livingston with both games starting at 3:30 p.m. at Oakdale High School next week, Dec. 11 and Dec. 13.
VARSITY GIRLS
The preseason for the Lady Mustangs is only one game in. On Thursday, Nov. 30 the girls fell to Franklin 4-1 on the road. Scoring the lone goal for Oakdale was Talia Millard, on an assist by Maddy Freitas. Oakdale returns to the field on Thursday, Dec. 7 when they take on Riverbank with a scheduled start time of 5:30 p.m. Oakdale’s entire preseason will be played on the road with matches against Beyer, Modesto, Venture Academy and Sonora. The Lady Mustangs will be rewarded when their Valley Oak League season opens up on Thursday, Dec. 21. Oakdale will host their first two league games beginning with Manteca on Dec. 21. The team will then take two weeks off for the holiday break and will play East Union at home on Tuesday, Jan. 2. Both games are scheduled for 5:45 p.m.
