Oakdale’s varsity softball girls earned a pair of non-league wins this past week. They welcomed Merced to town on Tuesday, March 8 and made short work of the visitors 6-0. Oakdale took their act on the road against Ceres where the girls earned their second shutout of the week as they dismissed Ceres 11-0 on Thursday, March 10.

In the team’s home win, senior Scarlett Brock pitched a complete game shutout with nine strikeouts and giving up three hits. Maddy Brewer went 1-for-3 at the dish but her lone hit got the crowd on their feet as the junior hit a solo home run to help power the Lady Mustangs. Oakdale’s offense was also powered by Maddi Hackbarth who went 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles and a triple and added an RBI. Grace Greene added a team high two RBI as she went 2-for-3 on the day with a single and a double. Freshman Lexi Webb also added an RBI for Oakdale.

“Basically I hit my spots and fooled the batters. I take each game the same way, with the same level of intensity, wither it is a VOL game or not,” Brock said of her performance.

Oakdale’s next game will be home against Kimball on Thursday, March 17 with a scheduled start time at 4 p.m.

Junior Varsity

Rain washed out the team’s away game against Ceres. Mother Nature also forced Oakdale to reschedule their home game against Merced from Tuesday to Wednesday. The delay did not seem to slow them down as Oakdale powered their way to an impressive 10-3 victory over Merced. Oakdale will host Kimball on Thursday, March 17 in the team’s regular season opener. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
