Lady Mustangs Get Back On Track Against Kimball

Last season the Kimball High School girls track and field team defeated the Oakdale varsity girls team, ending their long undefeated streak in Valley Oak League action. Fast forward nearly 12 months and this time it was the Lady Mustangs who prevailed.

In varsity girls track and field competition this past week, the Lady Mustangs won 96-40. Courtney Dickens helped Oakdale earn the road win by taking first in both the 100 and 200 meter races. Dickens was also on the winning relay teams along with Paris Thompson, Carley Maaske and Marnelle Salie in the 4x100 meter and teamed with Cassie England, Salie and Thompson in the 4x400 meter relay and took first in that as well. Cassie England placed first in the 100 meter hurdles as well as set a personal record of five feet even in the high jump. Sophomore Kayden Legan placed first in a pair of events as she took first in both the 1600 and 3200 meter races. In throws competition it was Angie Lowry who earned top honors in shot put and Emma Harper placed first in discus.

For the varsity boys, Ben Chappell set a personal best in discus when he threw for 142 feet and took first place in the process. Jorge Barajas tossed for nearly 50 feet in shot put to claim first place. Hunter Falconi set a personal best in the high jump at six feet and took first place. Justin Carlos earned a first place finish in pole vault when he cleared the bar at 11 feet, six inches. Cameron Burke placed first in the 400 meter race and the team of Jay Hummer, Zeke Saffar, A.J. Martinez and Cameron Burke took first in the 4x400 meter relay.

Oakdale will be off during spring break but will return on Thursday, April 12 when they host Lathrop. The Mustangs will be home for their final three meets as they will also host East Union and then Central Catholic in their regular season finale on April 26.
