Three Lady Mustang programs were in action this past week. Ladies of the links, tennis courts and volleyball hardwood all displayed their talents in Valley Oak League action.

GOLF

Oakdale improved to 4-2 in VOL action after knocking off Central Catholic 257-272; Manteca 258-299 and Lathrop 262-391 for a trio of league victories. In their lone loss of the week, Oakdale fell to Kimball 253-278. Freshman Taylor Stewart continues her impressive season. Stewart carded scores of 40, 38, 44 and 42 during the week. Fellow Lady Mustang Emily Greenwood also had a memorable week as the senior hit 48, 53, 55 and 47 for the Lady Mustang golfers. The girls take this week off as Oakdale Golf and Country Club undergoes minor renovations. Oakdale returns to the links on Monday, Sept. 28 when they host Central Catholic. The schedule doesn’t get any kinder to Oakdale when they clash with tough East Union on Monday, Oct. 5. East Union has won eight straight VOL titles and are 101-1 over their last 102 matches, including having a 55-match winning streak.

TENNIS

Tuesday, Sept. 15 the Lady Mustangs hosted Sierra in a VOL showdown. Oakdale tamed the Lady Wolves with a 5-4 victory. In the nailbiter, Oakdale’s Danika Brown and Cori Barney both fell in singles action. Courtney Rodgers, Alyssa Gouviea and Maddi Brewer helped power the Lady Mustangs with their straight set singles victories. Oakdale’s doubles dropped two of three, but it was the tandem of Jessica Gorman and McKayla Johnson who made the difference for Oakdale. After dropping the first set, Gorman and Johnson rallied to a 6-1 second set victory and followed it up with a 6-2 win in the third and decisive set. On Thursday, Sept. 17 the girls headed to Central Catholic for their second match of the week. The Lady Raiders made short work of Oakdale winning 7-2. Oakdale’s Gorman and Johnson and Taryn Lane and Shannen Yang provided Oakdale’s two wins. Oakdale returns to VOL action on Thursday, Sept. 24 when they welcome Weston Ranch. Singles action is set to begin at 3:30 p.m.

VOLLEYBALL

The Lady Mustangs hosted Lathrop for their 2015 VOL opener on Thursday night, Sept. 17. Oakdale got off to a hot start and never cooled off as the Lady Mustangs varsity girls won in three sets 25-6, 25-13 and 25-4. Senior Shaye Spani led the team with eight kills and eight aces. Fellow senior Lauren Ott anchored the defense with three blocks and 11 digs. Isabella Cobarruvias and Jocelyn Burke each had 10 assists to help the Lady Mustangs top the Lady Spartans. Oakdale’s (1-0) next VOL match is Thursday night, Sept. 24 as they host Manteca (1-0). Game time is set for 6 p.m.
