Junior Varsity Tournament Halted By Spring Rains

The Oakdale High School junior varsity baseball team hosted its annual Rotary Club Spring Tournament this past week. Oakdale went 2-0 but the championship round was postponed due to heavy rain on Friday. Oakdale defeated Tokay and Gregori in their pair of games.

On Wednesday, April 4 the JV Mustangs knocked off Tokay 13-5 behind freshman Carson Cripe’s four RBI day. He went 2-for-4 at the plate. Justin Thompson connected on an RBI triple and Seth Presant added two RBI in the win. Garrett Lee, Evan Waite and Dom McDonald also had an RBI for Oakdale. On the day, Oakdale stole five bases, including three by Gage Brink. Presant earned the win as he pitched four innings and struck out five batters.

In extra innings Oakdale defeated Gregori 2-1 on Thursday, April 5. Antinetti connected on a walk off single in the eighth inning for Oakdale. Brett Maddock had the only multi-hit day for the Mustangs with two hits. Antinetti was also the winner on the mound when he pitched an inning of relief, striking out one batter in the eighth. Maddock started the game and pitched seven innings, giving up just two hits and striking out seven batters.

Oakdale hosted Manteca on Tuesday, April 10 following The Leader’s press time. Thursday, April 12, Oakdale travels to Manteca to face the Buffaloes with first pitch scheduled for 4 p.m.

The JV boys went into new week with a 4-0 record in Valley Oak League play.

 

FRESHMEN

Oakdale’s youngest baseball team headed to Modesto for a spring tournament during the week off from school. The Mustangs went 3-0 in the tournament knocking off Enochs, Downey and Gregori at Gregori High School. Oakdale made short work of Enochs on Tuesday, April 3 when they defeated the Eagles 21-9. The following day Oakdale ran away from Downey 14-1 and knocked off the host team 3-2 in the championship game. Oakdale will host Turlock on Wednesday, April 11 in non-conference play. The frosh Mustangs return to Valley Oak League play on Wednesday, April 18 at home against Sierra.
