Harmon Takes First Place At Tim Brown Memorial
OHS Mustangs

Oakdale wrestlers competed twice this week. The boys hit the road for the second Valley Oak League dual meet of the season, and also competed at the 2017 Tim Brown Memorial over the weekend. On Wednesday night, Jan. 11 Oakdale traveled to Sierra High School to take on both Kimball and Sierra in the double dual meet. Oakdale’s varsity dismissed Kimball 72-0 and followed up with a 64-15 victory over Sierra to take the meet. The junior varsity boys also made short work of the league foes, winning 60-9 over Kimball and 64-12 over Sierra.

Two days later the varsity team hit the road and headed to Memorial Auditorium in downtown Sacramento for the two-day Tim Brown Memorial Tournament. Oakdale sent seven wrestlers to the tournament. At 162 pounds, senior Bronson Harmon went 4-0 and drew two byes to take first place in the tournament at his weight class. Sophomore Gabe Martinez placed sixth amongst the 154-pound competitors. Martinez had back to back byes and advanced to the quarterfinals due to an injury to his opponent. Martinez earned a pin victory in his first mat action but would lose 7-4 the following round. Ronnie Ochoa also found a spot on the podium with a seventh place finish. Ochoa, who competes at 140 pounds, went 3-2 over the weekend. Also competing for Oakdale were Jake Abeyta (128 pounds, 4-2); Justin Jericoff (162 pounds, 1-2); and Luis Ayala (197 pounds, 3-2).

Today, Wednesday, Jan. 18 the team will host Lathrop and Manteca in a double dual meet, set to begin at 4 p.m.

On Saturday, Jan. 21 the team will compete in the Hatler Memorial in Sonora.
